Prysmian BICON PBMPJ Hydrocarbon Resistant Cable Joints (LV & MV) either based on Low Hazard JEM Resin encapsulation together with rigid glass reinforced outer shells which provide excellent resistance to the hydrocarbons found in many installations or based on Elaspeed™ cold-shrink joint bodies – which reduce jointing time and improve system reliability.
LV Hydrocarbon Resistant Cable Joints: This range of joints is based on the Prysmian BICON Low Hazard JEM Resin encapsulation together with rigid glass reinforced outer shells which provide excellent resistance to the hydrocarbons found in many installations.
MV Hydrocarbon Resistant Cable Joints: This range is built around the Prysmian Elaspeed™ bodies. This reduces jointing time and improve system reliability. You can use these one piece joint bodies with compression or mechanical connectors and require minimal tooling and no heat. These joints are also enclosed within JEM resin and glass reinforced shells.
In this range a Phenolic resin shell is used to provide excellent resistance to Hydrocarbons found in Oil, Gas and Petrochemical installations. The use of this shell material together with other design features, means that the lead sheathe incorporated in the cable design does not need to be present in the joint.
Tests have taken place to demonstrate the chemical resistance of both the shell and the sealing putty to BS6899 using ASTM oils, numbers 2 and 3. This calls for 24 hour immersion at 100°C and specifies permissible changes in mechanical properties before and after ageing. In each case, we observed minimal changes after immersion in both oils. Under conditions where most conventional polymers used in cable construction would not survive. PBMPJ4, PBMPJ6
For many years, BICON has been in the forefront of jointing technology. From designs using bituminous filling compounds, to the development of the highly successful BICAST acrylic resin jointing system.
Most recently, we have supplemented these ranges with heat shrink and pre-moulded products (BIMOLD). We can now offer a unique package to satisfy all requirements.
All four systems are available at voltages up to or above 33 kV. Depending on application, each may offer benefits over the others.
For instance, termination of high voltage polymeric cables requiring the facility to disconnect or add in additional cables at a later stage, means that BIMOLD is the logical choice. Likewise, BICAST provides a fast, comprehensive jointing method. This method provides a versatile range covering low and high voltage and all cable types.
